PODCAST

Before working through the podcast activity this week my knowledge around podcasts was limited to thinking there were just done by "radio" or "companies" that wanted to expand the ways their listeners could listen to them. For example, I use podcasts to listen to sports radio shows that happen during the day that I am not able to listen to due to being in class or at work during the time the show is on the radio. However, after this week I was educated that podcasts are not just used by companies and radio shows, rather, anyone that wants to broadcast a message in a audio, video, and/or document form can use podcasts as an effective social media medium.  

Being able to use podcasts as an effective tool to broadcasts a message in an audio, video, and/or document form contributes to an individuals digital literacy as podcasts represent another way to publish a message. This adds to digital literacy because by being able to publish information in a different way may allow for you to reach a different audience. For example, some online users might not enjoy reading articles, however they welcome the way of receiving information through watching videos or listening to something like a podcast. Therefore, if your able to create podcasts your information has a better chance at reaching a bigger audience. For this reason it is evident that having the ability to create podcasts you are expanding your digital literacy in a positive way, as you are able to put information into a way that is appealing to more then jus tone type of audience. This can be important in places like educational settings (school projects), or even the workplace. An example in the workplace where being able to use podcasts could come in handy could be when hosting a meeting and a speaker can not be there. The speaker could create a podcast to be played in the meeting, which would allow for everyone to hear it and then discuss like the person was there. 

In conclusion, I thought it was very rewarding to learn how easy and useful creating a podcast is, and it is something that I will keep in mind when I am looking for a creative way to broadcast or publish information.
